Galaxy Coach Sets Clear Target For The Rockets

TS Galaxy head coach Adnan Beganovic says rebuilding the squad is always going to bring challenges but is confident they can end the season strong with the Nedbank Cup title and a top eight finish.

Since losing their two-star performers Puso Dithejane to Chicago Fire and Khulumani Ndamane to Mamelodi Sundowns in January, the club has been on a poor run of form in the second half of the season – despite an incredible cup run to the semi-finals where they face Milford this weekend.

Added to the exits of Lebone Seema and Kamogelo Sebelebele to Orlando Pirates and experienced forwards Keagan Dolly and Dzenan Zajmovic leaving before the start of the current campaign – it’s been a major task for Beganovic and his technical team to create another competitive squad but their first half of the season means they sit only three points from the top eight.

However, they are cognisant of the slump they suffered, having dropped down to 11th in the league with seven defeats, one draw and one win since the return of football after the Africa Cup of Nations which culminated with the 6-0 thumping against Orlando Pirates.

“We rebuild this team all the time, we try to improve our game model, our philosophy and sometimes we need time to get back to our top level, we have a new group of players, most of the 90% understand our philosophy but we need time for some of the younger players to make that step up of the top level,” Beganovic said.

“It’s a lot of work but we won’t give up, we come, we work, we fight every day – we have some tough moments, some good moments, but when the season finish, we analyse everything, I want to be positive, I want to be happy because when I look back I want to see that trophy, I want to see top eight and the positive things we can do. I believe we can do that.”

During this period Galaxy have blooded in the likes of Thiago Walters, Melusi Mathebula, Siphamandla Ngwenya, Siyabonga N’Guessan, Lentswe Motaung, Seluleko Mahlambi, Owethu Khumalo and Ntandoyenkosi Nkosi – all under the age of 21 into the senior set-up.
