SuperSport United suffered a 4-0 defeat at the hands of Stellenbosch FC in the Nedbank Cup quarterfinal which Gavin Hunt said was the biggest cup loss he ever suffered.
Saturday was not the first-time season United losing to Stellies in a cup game, as they suffered a 1-0 defeat in the MTN8. United managed to beat the Cape Winelands side in the league late last year.
It comes out as coach Gavin Hunt’s heaviest defeat in a cup competition in his whole coaching career. The experienced mentor seemed heartbroken and mentioned that during the press conference at Stellenbosch.
“No, I don’t think so not in the cup, [my biggest] defeat in 30 years in the cup, not easy to take, but ja,” Hunt told the media.
Matsatsantsa have just one thing to fight for now this season which is to finish as high as possible in the DStv Premiership and possibly return to continental football via league positions.
With eight games to go, United are sitting sixth with 34 points which is not far from second-placed Stellenbosch who are on 39 points.
