iDiskiTV analyst Junior Khanye has applauded Orlando Pirates attacking midfielder Patrick Maswanganyi after his Man of the Match performance in the Nedbank Cup quarter-final against AmaZulu in Durban on Saturday.
Maswanganyi who joined the Buccaneers at the start of this season scored a brace as the defending champions came down to win 4-2 in an entertaining game. The brace took his goal tally in the tournament to three while his overall goal contribution is 16 across all competitions this season.
Khanye says the Bafana-Bafana international is a star player who rises to expectations adding that a lot of attacking players can learn from the 26 year old in how he uses his brain and doesn’t rely on speed.
“Big players rise especially in games like these,” said Khanye on iDiskiTV.
“I expected such a game from Pirates. Pirates need players like Maswanganyi, players who rise to such expectations. If at stadium is full to capacity that way, you cannot watch a boring game. He dribbles when it’s necessary to intimidate opponents. At the start of the game you saw him get on top of the ball and you wondered what he was doing, he was intimidating AmaZulu.”
“And if you check he was very influential in all of Orlando Pirates goals. He scored two and whenever Pirates looked dangerous he was there and he doesn’t even have speed. I think other attackers should learn from him that football is not only played with speed. This guy is not speedy but he is always dangerous when he gets the ball. He can change the direction of the game and his decision making is something else.”
