‘It Will Be Nice To Knock Pirates Out’

Baroka FC defender Bonginkosi Makume has admitted that it will be really nice if his side eliminated defending Nedbank Cup champions Orlando Pirates.

The Limpopo-based outfit will look to draw inspiration from a team that beat Pirates in the Telkom Knockout final in 2018 who are also battered and bruised after a 4-1 drubbing by Mamelodi Sundowns.

Pirates on the other hand are bidding for a hattrick of the Ke Yona Cup and Makume says the match offers a bigger opportunity for his younger teammates to market themselves and eliminating Pirates will help that course.

“It will be very nice [to knock them out] honestly,” Makume told reporters in Lebowakgomo.

“It will be very nice because there are plenty of youngsters here who are looking to have that spotlight and have that opportunity to be seen. So, I pray and hope that they come to the party on the day and eventually we knock them out.”

The 29-year-old is in his second stint with Bakgakga and likely to face former teammate Evidence Makgopa though he believes the latter has grown a lot in his game since leaving Limpopo.

“I think he [Makgopa] has grown as a footballer and his growth has happened immensely because he’s also played in the AFCON,” added Makume.

“So, his experience is going to come in handy for him. And playing against him I think I’m going to face a different Makgopa because I think he’s a different player than when he was here. He’s grown.”
