Riveiro On Chasing NBC, League & CAFCL

Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro has insisted there are still many games ahead of them to be speaking about potentially winning different titles this season.

The Spaniard is somewhat of a cup specialist since arriving in South Africa, winning three back-to-back MTN8 title – a record in the Premier Soccer League – and could now achieve a similar feat in the Nedbank Cup.

However, the Buccaneers are also still chasing for the league title and are among the Last-8 in the CAF Champions League, but Riveiro insisted they must take it one game at a time instead of looking too far ahead.

“Personally, I think it’s still early to speak about titles,” he said ahead of his side’s Ke Yona Cup clash against Baroka.

“We are going through now the rest of the month, it’s 15 days of February, March… We will be tested again in different competitions; the Champions League will come after the FIFA break in the middle of March.

“We’re trying to look at every game as an opportunity to win, to showcase the players talent, to make that we are the level that this project requires.

“At this time, it’s an opportunity to defend our last Nedbank title – we excited to continue in the same role, but again it’s going to be a tough one.

“We had an opportunity to look at the opponent and again it’s a serious team, with a lot of quality upfront, with capacity to give you a bad day if you are at the level the game requires.

“That’s our focus, try to be better than Baroka on Saturday, respecting them 100%. Then we’re going to the next, which is league, soon Champions League, it is because we are Orlando Pirates our obligation to fight for every result.”
