Mamelodi Sundowns winger Thembinkosi Lorch has revealed coach Rulani Mokwena was hard on him for not scoring enough before his brace against Maritzburg United on Sunday.
Lorch, who joined Sundowns in January from Orlando Pirates, netted two late goals as Sundowns beat Maritzburg United 2-0 at Lucas Moripe Stadium to qualify for the Last 8 of the Nedbank Cup.
The two goals took Lorch’s tally for Downs to three strikes in eight appearances since joining the club and he revealed it’s just what Mokwena had asked from him.
“I want to thank the man above for the challenge that he gave me and I’ll promise that I’ll honour it,” he told SuperSport TV.
“The coach was hard on me during the week for me not scoring the goals, I’m getting the balls but I’m not shooting enough and he was hard on me.
“I’m happy today, I managed to score two goals.”
Lorch also admitted that the switch between Pirates and Sundowns hasn’t been easy, thanking Mokwena for his patience.
“I would like to them [fans] for welcoming me to the team, I’d like to thank the coach for being patient with me,” he added.
“It wasn’t easy for me, coming from Pirates to Sundowns. I had to settle in and thanks to the guys.”
