Paseka Mako has taken a dig at critics of coach Jose Riveiro, making reference to the double-winning coach being called “a plumber” when he arrived at the club.
The Buccaneers completed a domestic double in 2022/23 after beating Sekhukhune United in Saturday’s Nedbank Cup final thanks to an injury-time winner by Terrence Dzvukamanja.
They lifted the Nedbank Cup after already beating AmaZulu 1-0 in the MTN8 final earlier in the campaign, making it a remarkable debut campaign for coach Jose Riveiro.
Some had doubted the Spanish tactician ahead of the campaign after his appointment was announced, some dubbing him “a plumber” and Mako couldn’t resist to take a dig at those who did.
“I’m happy that “the plumber” won the Nedbank Cup,” he said on SuperSport TV.
“They were calling our coach “the plumber” and now he is a champion. I’m so happy for him.”
Mako also insisted the trophy means a lot to everyone at the club and it’s a nice reward for all the hard work they’ve done in 2022/23.
“It means a lot to us and the fans and family of Orlando Pirates,” he added.
“Because it’s a reward, because we worked so hard at training, even outside.
“It means a lot to us and now I want to go and celebrate…”
