Mammila Clear In His Demands After Nedbank Cup Last-16 Draw

Chippa United head coach Morgan Mammila says there are no excuses for his side who he expects to be in the quarter-finals of the Nedbank Cup after their last-16 draw.

Chippa ousted high-flying Motsepe Foundation Championship side Polokwane City 3-1 on penalties after a 1-1 scoreline after-extra time to set up a tie with ABC Motsepe League side Mpeni Home Defenders, who beat Western Cape-based outfit Clarewood 3-0.

And Mammila, who previously stated he’d prefer facing a top-flight side, which he referred to as his ‘peers’ has now stated he’s happy with the draw against the third-tier side.

“Let’s be honest, this is a good draw for Chippa United Football Club, nothing to take away from Mpeni Home Defenders, they are a good team, they are second on their log in the ABC Motsepe League and won their match in the last-32,” Mammila said.

“That is why they are in the last-16 now so we’re going to respect them like any other team but one thing’s for sure, we are playing at home and don’t have any excuse to win this match, especially for our beloved supporters.

“We’ll go out with a full squad to play this match and we hope we’ll win this match and go to the last eight, to be honest, we have no excuses not to win this match, we have to, it’s a must for us to win this match!”

The Chili Boys return to DStv Premiership action next Sunday when they host relegation-threatened Swallows FC at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.
