Cape Town Spurs head coach Shaun Bartlett has revealed that the addition of Mamelodi Sundowns loanee Luvuyo Phewa has added immense quality to his team and gives the coaching team “massive headaches” to select their strongest XI.
Spurs unveiled Phewa on Tuesday after he completed a loan move from Sundowns on the last day of the window transfer, as reported by iDiski Times.
Phewa already made his debut on Friday, coming off the bench in their 3-0 win against Baroka in the Nedbank Cup last-32.
After the match, Bartlett admitted the 23-year-old, who scored 10 goals on loan at AmaTuks last season, is adding more competition to his promotion-chasing squad.
“Yeah, it gives obviously the coaching staff a massive headache as to who to select because everybody’s fit and ready to go,” Bartlett said after the match.
Before the game, the former Bafana Bafana striker already expressed the fitness state of Phewa after his late addition to the squad.
“He only arrived on Monday, we’ve been assessing him for the last couple of days as far as fitness,” Bartlett said in the pre-match press conference.
“He hasn’t played for six months so it’s obviously a concern for us but at the end of the day we wanna get him into the squad as soon as possible so Friday is definitely a possibility if all goes well.”
The 23-year-old had a fantastic season with the University Of Pretoria last season scoring over 10 goals and leading the team to the playoffs before an injury struck.
