Three Trophies Still To Play For At Pirates – Riveiro

Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro says it’s too early to be talking about trophies in reference to the club still in contention for three major honours this season.

Pirates face SuperSport United on Saturday afternoon at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium with a place in the semi-finals of the Nedbank Cup on the line.

While many have suggested the league title race may be a step too far, with the club 16 points behind Mamelodi Sundowns, albeit with four games in hand – they also still have the CAF Champions League quarter-final against Algerian champions MC Alger to think about.

“It’s very important for us to give our best in each and every competition that we participate in and particularly as a group, we have the ambition, since day one, to play every final, to play every last game of the competition with the possibility to be number one in every competition we’re in,” Riveiro said.

“We’re realistic, we know the difficulty to be there in the last game of every competition but so far I think in this kind of scenario’s we did a good job as a team, as a club and obviously on Saturday, 3 o’clock we go with the intention to be better than SuperSport and deserve to be in the semi-finals.

“This is… if I’m not wrong, we’re still in the quarter-final, so to start talking about the final or trophy or the [league] championship, it’s still too early, we know how difficult it will be on Saturday and again, we will try to be on the level that kind of game will ask for.”

The two sides meet on Saturday in Polokwane at 15h00.
