Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Thabo Cele dedicated his man of the match award to the club’s fans saying Chiefs wouldn’t have achieved the win without them.
Cele was key as Amakhosi eliminated Stellenbosch FC in the Nedbank Cup quarterfinals with a contentious 3-1 victory at the Nelson Mandela Bay stadium on Saturday.
The 28-year-old said they knew Stellies were going to be tough and with the 12th man cheering they grinded to cross the line further saying they want to replicate the form even in the league.
“First and foremost, I want to give thanks to the most high for all of this, the supporters and the atmosphere and the energy they gave us,” said Cele on SuperSport TV.
“Honestly this is for the whole team because we expected it was going to be a difficult game, but we had to grind, and we are happy to come away with the next step. Without these people, most of the moments we were down but they kept us going. I’m even losing my voice. I don’t have words.

“I just want to thank God and my family at home – my people. Since I’ve come back, it’s been like crazy for me. And we still want to go on to the next step. Even in the league we want to climb higher. As a team we are fighting.
“We want to fight more to achieve for the fans and for the club.”
