Simba SC head coach Steve Barker has reflected on winning his second trophy with the club in what was his first season in charge in Tanzania.
Barker joined Simba in December last year after leaving Stellenbosch FC, where he had been in charge since 2017. This past weekend, he guided the Tanzanian giants to their second trophy under his leadership.
The South African coach secured his second piece of silverware after Simba defeated 10-man Azam FC 1-0 in the CRDB Bank Federation Cup final on Saturday.
He won his first trophy in April when he led the club to victory over arch-rivals Young Africans in the Muungano Cup.
Barker said the team’s ambition next season is to compete for and win every trophy on offer.
He also thanked the players for their commitment and effort since his arrival, while dedicating the latest success to the club’s management.
“We need a rest now, and we come back next year, and we fight for every trophy that’s on offer,” said Barker, as quoted by Daily News.
“It was a hard, hard game. Hard fought, I think a typical cup final, but credit must go to the players. They’ve been superb since I arrived and they deserved this win 100%.
“This win was for the management, the president, the chairman, the board, all the support staff and mainly the players.
“Most importantly, it was also for the fans so that we could reward them with a trophy.”
