Steve Barker’s Simba SC missed on the league title despite going 25 games unbeaten, as Young Africans continued with their dominance by winning their 27th Tanzanian Premier League.
It’s been a highly-contested league in Tanzania between the two giants – Young Africans and Simba SC. Barker’s side had gone 24 league games unbeaten in league before their last game of the season on Tuesday.
Going into the game, Simba needed a win and a favour from JKT Tanzania to beat Young Africans. But Yanga took the lead inside eight minutes via Prince Dube and went into the break leading, while Simba went into the break goalless with KMC.
Young Africans doubled the lead in the second half to make it 2-0 through Maxi Nzengeli, while Simba opened the scoring through a penalty in the 56th minute.
But the league title remained in Yanga’s hands as they put the nail on the JKT coffin by making it 3-0 to walk away with the league title with 75 points and a 71-9 goals.
Simba followed with 73 points and 54-11 goals, missing out on the trophy despite losing just one match – before Barker’s arrival – and winning their last 10 successive games.
