Chivaviro Continues Saudi Scoring Form & Webber Nets In The US

It was a standout weekend for South African players abroad, with Mihlali Mayambela winning the league title in Cyprus, Ranga Chivaviro continuing his sharp scoring form, and Jamie Webber getting on the scoresheet.

In Cyprus, Mayambela added a prestigious winner’s medal to his collection as AC Omonia were crowned league champions for the 22nd time in their history. His third trophy in Europe since 2023.

Omonia secured the title with a dominant 3-0 victory over Aris Limassol on Saturday night; although Mayambela remained an unused substitute on the night, he has been a vital part of the squad’s journey to the summit.

Elsewhere in the Cypriot top flight, Thapelo Maseko put in a full 90-minute shift for AEL Limassol in their 1-1 draw. His compatriot and teammate Luther Singh was a notable absentee, missing out on the matchday squad for the second consecutive fixture.

In the USL Championship [USA], Webber scored a penalty for FC Tulsa in their 2-1 victory over Monterey Bay.

Over in Saudi Arabia, Chivaviro remains the man of the moment for Al Adalah. The former Kaizer Chiefs striker was the hero in the Division 1 clash against Al Anwar, scoring once and providing an assist to guide his side to a 2-1 victory.

In the Saudi Pro League, Elias Mokwana faced a daunting task against giants Al Hilal. He played 74 minutes for Al Hazem, but it was a tough afternoon as his side slumped to a 3-0 defeat.

In Denmark, Gift Links featured for 88 minutes to help Aarhus secure a 2-1 win over Sonderjyske.

Meanwhile, in Austria, Yusuf Maart played the full 90 minutes for Ried in their 2-0 victory over BW Linz, though teammate Antonio van Wyk did not feature in the squad.

In England, Luke Le Roux continues to impress in the Championship, playing 84 minutes for Portsmouth in a hard-fought 1-1 draw with Birmingham City.

In the Premier League, however, Lyle Foster was omitted from the Burnley traveling squad that suffered a 3-1 loss to Leeds United.

In Germany, young defender Ime Okon proved his resilience, playing the entire match for Hannover 96 in a thrilling 3-3 stalemate against Preussen Munster.

Further north in Belgium, Shandre Campbell missed out for Club Brugge for the second week running as they defeated Anderlecht 3-1.

In Romania, Siyabonga Ngezana was also absent from the FCSB lineup in their narrow 1-0 loss to Csikszereda.

In the United States, Mbekezeli Mbokazi played full 90 minutes for Chicago Fire as they lost 3-2 to FC Cincinnati while his SA teammate Puso Dithejane remained an unused substitute.

Elsewhere, Olwethu Makhanya completed 90 minutes for Philadelphia Union in a 0-0 draw with Nashville. Meanwhile, Bongokuhle Hlongwane was not in the squad for Minnesota United’s 3-2 win over Columbus Crew.

Finally, in Tanzania, the “Kariakoo Derby” between Simba SC and Young Africans had a distinct South African flavour. Both Rushine De Reuck and Neo Maema played the full 90 minutes for Simba in a pulse-pounding 2-2 draw, holding their own in one of Africa’s most intense rivalries.
