Siviwe Magidigidi’s promotion chase with Beerschot VA remains alive after a dramatic comeback victory in the Promotion play-offs against Patro Eisden.
The South Africa U20 international striker joined the Belgian second-tier club in January from Siwelele in a deal worth in the region of R7-million after impressing at the U20 FIFA World Cup in the first six months of the Betway Premiership.
He was part of the SuperSport United set-up after being lured to the club from Ubuntu Academy before the Siwelele rebranding and was one of the stars of the DStv Diski Challenge.
In the senior ranks, featuring as a second striker and wide forward, he netted four goals, with three assists in 34 league games before the move to Europe – whilst also bagging two in the World Cup in Chile.
With his move mid-season move to Belgium seen as a signing for the future, he’s made seven appearances so far, three of which were starts but his most recent outing will likely be the most memorable.
Having finished third in the league behind KC Kortrijk and title winners Beveren, where compatriots Cassius Mailula and Kurt Abrahams ply their trade – and both automatically promoted, Magidigidi’s side moved to the playoffs quarter-finals.
Dream Lives On In Dramatic Fashion
And they were starring at a heartbreaking end to the 2025/26 season in the first round, against Patro Eisden with the club 3-2 down going into stoppage-time, Magidigidi, who was a second half substitute was involved in the dramatic comeback.
His side netted a 92nd minute equaliser to force the game into extra-time before eventually winning the game 4-3 on aggregate with a 116th minute winner.
Beerschot will now advance to the semi-final to face Lommel SK over two legs, before the winner takes on FC Dender, who finished in the relegation play-off spot in the top-flight, in the final.
