Simba SC head coach Fadlu Davids has expressed disappointment at slightly losing ground in the championship race after playing to a share of the spoils with Azam.
The Reds of Msimbazi now sit four points behind bitter rivals Young Africans with 55 points from 21 matches after their 2-2 draw though the former have played a match less.
Azam opened the scoring as early as the first minute through Gibril Sillah before Simba struck back via Elie Mpanzu’s 26th-minute strike.
In the second period, Simba took the lead for the first time in the match with Abdulrazack Hamza making it 2-1 in the 75th minute.
When it looked like Davids’ charges were heading for yet another maximum points, a lapse of concentration allowed the visitors back into the match as Zidane Sereri scored in the 88th minute as the sides shared a point.
A dejected Davids branded their draw as ‘two crucial mistakes that cost us three points today’.
“It was very disappointing after a good performance,” Davids told the media after the match.
“Very disappointing of course first to concede the goal in the first few minutes and then the mistake right at the end. Right in the beginning of the match, right at the end of the match.
“Two crucial mistakes that cost us three points today.”

The former Orlando Pirates assistant coach admitted that they will now need to win each and every game if they wish to be crowned champions when the curtain comes down on the current season.
“One point ahead, one behind doesn’t really make a big difference but we have to win every match.
“We win every match for the rest of the season, we’re champions.
“The next match is always the most important and the three points at hand before you can think about derby, it’s very important.
“Let us fight everything in our power to get the three points and then I would take it game by game.
“Timbo fans let’s not give up. Let’s keep pushing. The championship is gonna go down to the wire. Every match we have to fight to win.
“If we win every match, we’re champion, so let’s get behind the team.”
The next match sees them take the trip to Coastal Union on Saturday, 1 March.
