Former Al Ahly defender Saad Samir has rubbished claims that the players wanted Pitso Mosimane gone as “fake news”.
Mosimane had a successful spell at the Egyptian giants, delivering two CAF Champions League titles, two CAF Super Cups and one Egyptian Cup.
When the South African tactician joined Al Ahly they hadn’t won the CAF Champions League in seven years and were striving to lift their 10th continental crown, with Mosimane delivering back-to-back CAFCL titles.
However, there had been rumours in Egyptian media that Al Ahly’s players had filed a complaint against Mosimane with the club’s leadership around president Mahmoud El Khatib to part ways with the serial winner.
But Samir, who only played a bit-part role under Mosimane, has dismissed those claims.
“This did not happen. There is a lot of news about the club every day that is not true,” he told On Sport FM radio, as cited by Gulf365.
“What will we tell the club management? Will we tell him that we do not want this coach who won two African Champions Leagues and a World Cup and League bronze, that he is a bad coach and we do not want him.
“It certainly doesn’t make sense.”
