Bafana Bafana midfielder Luke Le Roux is excited to get going for his new club in the Eredivisie, FC Volendam as he targets a spot in the Africa Cup of Nations squad.
The South Africa international, 23, left the Allsvenksan side Varbergs BoIS where he emerged as one of the leading talents in Sweden and captained the side.
However, with his contract nearing its end, the club opted to allow him to join the Netherlands top-flight side instead of losing him for free at the end of the season.
iDiski Times understands his debut for the club has been delayed after suffering an injury in training shortly after his arrival – which he is now recovering from.
“I’m grateful for the way I was welcomed by all since arriving here at Volendam, [it’s] just unfortunate that I picked up an injury early on,” Le Roux stated.
“I’m pushing hard to be match-fit again to help my new team on the field of play and be ready for AFCON if called upon by coach Hugo Broos.”
He’s likely to be eased into the team in the coming weeks which is a major boost for Broos, whom he’s become a regular under over the past 12 months.
Le Roux has been capped five times for South Africa since making his senior international debut against Sierra Leone in September last year.
