It was another impressive weekend for South African players abroad, with Thembinkosi Lorch and Lyle Foster shining for their respective clubs.
Lorch found the back of the net, scoring the crucial equaliser in a 1-1 draw for Wydad Casablanca in the Moroccan Botola Pro on Friday night.
In the English Premier League, Foster made a significant impact for Burnley this weekend, providing a crucial assist for Jaidon Anthony’s goal in their 1-1 draw against Nottingham Forest.
Also in England, Luke Le Roux put in an impressive 45-minute shift for his side, who were ultimately defeated 2-0 by Sheffield Wednesday in the EFL Championship.
Ime Okon, who has become a regular for Hannover 96, played 90 minutes with his side drawing 2-2 against SG Dynamo Dresden in the Bundesliga 2.
Antonio van Wyk and Yusuf Maart both started for SV Ried in the Austrian Bundesliga, where their side suffered a 3-2 loss to Austria Vienna.
In Romania, FCSB, with Siyabonga Ngezana playing the full 90 minutes, lost 3-1 to FC Botosani in the league outing. It was his first game since coming from representing Bafana Bafana in the FIFA World Cup qualifiers earlier this month.
In the USA MLS, Bongokuhle Hlongwane featured for 35 minutes in Minnesota United’s 3-0 defeat to Chicago Fire. In the same league, Olwethu Makhanya was suspended and did not play in the Philadelphia Union’s 1-0 win against the New England Revolution.
In the Saudi Pro League, Mohau Nkota played 63 minutes when his side Al Ettifaq were thumped 4-1 by Al Taawon on Thursday.
Nkota was also on the field for 59 minutes when Ettifaq lost 3-2 to Al Batin in the Kings Cup Round of 16. Also in Saudi, Elias Mokwana played the entire match as his side, Al Hazem, drew 2-2 with Al Fateh in the Saudi Pro League.
