South Africa youth international Tashreeq Matthews opened his account for the 2023 season at IK Sirius on Saturday afternoon.
The 22-year-old winger joined the Allsvenskan club from domestic rivals Varbergs BoIs in August last year and scored once in 12 games as they retained their top-flight status.
One of the primary reasons for the move was the style of play implemented at the club which contrasted with the direct tactical system at Varbergs.
And it appears it may be the start of a season to remember as he opened the scoring in the Svenska Cupen in a livewire display.
Despite the impressive display as they lead 2-0 on the hour mark, an eight-minute blitz from Mjällby turned the game on its head 3-2.
The result moved them to the summit of Group H with nine points, three ahead of Sirius in the domestic cup with the leaders advancing to the knockout stages of the competition.
Matthews will be aiming to bring more of the same, with two friendlies scheduled before the league campaign starts in the first week of April.
