Bafana Bafana defender Mbekezeli Mbokazi made his return to competitive action after a lengthy injury layoff, while Tshegofatso Mabasa scored his first goal for his new club with Bongokuhle Hlongwane registering an assist in the MLS outing.
Mbokazi featured in the early hours of the morning as Chicago Fire secured a 1-0 away victory over Charlotte.
The 21-year-old centre-back had not played competitively since June, when he featured for Bafana Bafana in their 1-0 FIFA World Cup Round of 32 defeat to Canada.
Another South African, Brody Williams, was included in the Chicago Fire matchday squad but remained an unused substitute. It was his first involvement with the senior team after impressing for the club’s MLS Next Pro side.
Meanwhile, Hlongwane also returned to action after missing time through injury. The Minnesota United attacker made his first appearance since 20 August.
Hlongwane was an unused substitute last week as Minnesota suffered a 3-2 defeat to Los Angeles Galaxy, but he returned to the pitch this weekend and provided an assist despite his side falling to a 3-1 loss against Seattle Sounders.
In Morocco, Mabasa netted his first goal for his new club Maghreb Fez in their 2-1 victory over Renaissance Zemamra in the Botola Pro outing.
