Manqoba Mngqithi’s Young Africans SC and Steve Barker’s Simba SC continued with their perfect start to the season after both won their Tuesday league games.
The NBC Premier League looks set to be a two-horse race again, with defending champions and Young Africans and Simba SC already showing their quality.
Coming to Monday’s games both sides won the first four league games but Mngqithi’s Young Africans was sitting top on goal difference.
Wanachi battled with Fountain Gate away from home on a hot afternoon. Proven goalscorer Peter Shalulile opened the scoring in the 26th minute to make it 1-0, while Mudathir Yahya doubled the lead in the 76th minute to seal the win for Mngqithi and remain top of the league table with Simba playing next against Geita Gold later in the day.
Simba knew they could not slip up as Young Africans had already won their game, and Barker’s side started the game in control, scoring the opener after 21 minutes through 35-year-old Clatous Chama. Fifteen minutes into the second half, Libasse Gueye doubled the lead to make it 2-0 for Simba.
But Young Africans remain top of the NBC Premier League on goal difference. Wanachi are sitting on +13 on goal difference while Simba are sitting on +7.
Simba will begin their CAF Champions League journey this coming weekend against Mighty Wanderers of Malawi, while Young Africans will travel to Botswana to face Gaborone United.
