Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Siyabonga Ngezana is closing in on his first-ever league title, as his FCSB are just two games away from lifting the Romanian Superliga.
Ngezana joined FCSB at the beginning of the season after coming through the youth ranks at Naturena.
The 26-year-old penned a five-year deal with the Romanian giants, and hasn’t looked back since.
After a difficult first month or so, Ngezana cemented a place in the starting line-up following the injury of former Tottenham Hotspur and Napoli defender Vlad Chiricheș.
With less than a year since he completed the move, Ngezana is edging closer to winning his first-ever league title, as FCSB are on the verge of ending the nine-year trophy drought in the Superliga.
After finishing the regular season with 64 points – nine ahead of second-placed Rapid Bucaresti, FCSB have won all their four championship playoff games so far.
It means, they are leading the playoffs log by 13 points ahead of CFR Cluj with six games left to play and now need just six points from their final six league matches to clinch their first league title since 2014/15.
FCSB only conceded one goal in the four matches they’ve played in the Superliga Championship playoff round. Their next encounter is against Rapid Bucaresti on 20 April.
This would also secure them place in the EUFA Champions League qualification for the 2024/25 season.
Overall, FCSB have kept 15 clean sheets in the 32 games Ngezana has played across all competitions.
