Ngezana With Double-Edged Debut

Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Siyabonga Ngezana made his unofficial debut for his new club FCSB, writing headlines after being given the armband in the second half.

Ngezana, 25, joined his new teammates over the weekend, with FCSB currently having a training camp in the Netherlands.

The towering centre-back made his unofficial debut for the club in a friendly against Greek giants PAOK, coming on as a substitute after 60 minutes.

However, Ngezana had a double-edged debut, as he slipped before POAK scored the equaliser. Later, though, he received the captain’s armband when FCSB skipper Adrian Șut left the pitch.

His new coach Elias Charalambous defended Ngezana after after a local publication labelled his first game as a “nightmare debut”, insisting mistakes are part of football and Ngezana is still blending in with the team.

“Ngezana is a new footballer, it was his first game,” Charalambous said, as per Gazeta Sporturilor.

“It doesn’t matter, it happens to all the players to [make a mistake]. It’s part of the game.

“But he’s a boy who wants to learn. He’s happy with us and we are also happy with him.

“I’m sure by working with the team, he will improve day by day.”

FCSB kick off their new season on 16 July already, when they will face FC U Craiova 1948.
