After moving out of the relegation zone last week, Pitso Mosimane has a date with destiny – facing his former club this coming weekend.
Mosimane’s Abha Club moved to 15th spot, one point ahead of the relegation spots after collecting a draw against Damak.
“Our victory over Al-Ittihad made people expect our victory over Damak, but in football things change, and I admit that missing the penalty kick clearly affected the team,” Mosimane said, as per Aawsat.
“For us, in this situation, a point is better than nothing, and now we will remain looking forward to the results of the other teams.
“Our goal is to survive.”
This coming weekend, Abha will face Mosimane’s former club, Al Ahli, who are currently sitting in third place.
After Mosimane brought them back into the Saudi Pro League, the club parted ways with the South African and his technical team.
There was a court battle over unpaid salaries, which Mosimane and his representatives won at FIFA, making the clash even more spicy.
However, it will be an uphill task for Abha, as Al Ahli are one of the four clubs, who had a massive cash injection and signed players such as Riyad Mahrez, Roberto Firmino and Edouard Mendy.
Abha currently have three more games in their attempt to survive relegation. After Al Ahli, they still face 11th-placed Al Khaleej and bottom-paced Al Hazm.
