Former Mamelodi Sundowns and Wydad AC coach Rulani Mokwena says he has followed the progress of Esperance de Tunis winger Elias Mokwana, stating he is an interesting player with a lot of potential.
The former Sekhukhune United man joined the Tunisian side at the start of the last season, and he has helped them clinch the Tunisian Ligue 1 title playing 25 league matches where he has three goals and two assists. He also featured in eight CAF Champions League outings with three goals and two assists.
Mokwana and the double-winning Tunis are currently in the USA at the FIFA Club World Cup drawn in Group D with English side Chelsea, Flamengo and Club Leon.
Mokwena told iDiski Times‘ Digital editor David Kappel in edition 208 of the newspaper how impressed he has been with the Bafana international in the North and that he cannot wait to watch him at the Club World Cup.
“He’s a player that interests me, ” Mokwena told iDiski Times.
“He has a lot of good weapons to develop into a top player, and he has really grown in North Africa over the last few months. With the few games I’ve watched, he’s impressed me.
“He’s settled well, and the good thing is he’s playing with a very talented group with Bilali, Yan Sasse and Rodrigues.
“And Elias adds more speed and directness to their attack, and this makes Esperance even more powerful during transitions. So, it will be interesting to see him at the level of the Club World Cup’s intensity.
“The experience for him will also help him become a much better player, and Bafana will have much stronger options. He has great potential still.”
