Rulani On Potential PSL Return

Wydad Athletic Club head coach Rulani Mokwena has insisted he is now focussed on growing his career abroad and would only consider returning to South Africa at the end of his career.

Mokwena, who turned 38 on Thursday, has accepted the task of awakening the sleeping giant after Wydad failed to qualify for the CAF Champions league last season.

However, after a major squad revamp it hasn’t been all smooth sailing, with Wydad currently in sixth place in the Botola Pro league, 12 points behind leaders RS Berkane.

Mokwena, though, admitted he is keen on progressing with his project in Morocco, and he wants to stay abroad once he departs Wydad.

“Inshallah, hopefully there are more opportunities abroad,” he told CAF TV.

“As much as I miss South Africa, and I love the South African people, of course and I think maybe towards the end of my career I can go back to South Africa.

“I think now is about spending some time here, learning, challenging myself and improving.

“But also then trying to stretch myself into bigger clubs, more challenging scenarios and learning from many other coaches and many other cultures.

“And of course this club represents that, it’s a great opportunity. There has been some great coaches that have coached Wydad.

“And it’s only a privilege to represent the people of the winners. Wydad is a very special club and I’m falling more and more in love with this club every single day.

“Yesterday we had our fans at the training session and I can tell you I was close to tears when they came to support us.”
