SA Winger Fires Beveren To Promotion In Belgium

South African winger Kurt Abrahams has fired SK Beveren to top-flight promotion as he continued his impressive run of form since returning to Belgium.

Abrahams, 29, returned to the country where he made his name after nearly two years in Serbia with Novi Pazar and Sloboda Uzice where he struggled to adapt to the league.

However, the diminutive attacker, who was previously on the books of Sint-Truiden, KVC Westerlo and KMSK Deinze, returned and has been an inspiring signing by Beveren.

With 11 goals and seven assists since his arrival in December 2024, he’s become an ever-present figure in the starting line-up and once again found the net as they thrashed Patro Eisden 4-1 this weekend.

The win earned them promotion to the top-flight as they move to 66 points after 24 games, 11 points ahead of third placed Lommel and with a game in hand. Abrahams now trails Ralf Seuntjens by five goals in the Golden Boot race, with seven games remaining in the league season.

Cassius Mailula’s K.V. Kortrijk are currently second, in the other automatic promotion spot while Siviwe Magidigidi at Beerschot VA are in fourth – the promotion play-off spot.

Mailula has featured three times since his loan from MLS side FC Toronto, while Magidigidi has made two appearances since his mid-season transfer from Siwelele.
