Al Ahly forward Percy Tau admits that he’s still very much in contact with his former coach Rulani Mokwena but dispelled rumours about possibly joining him in Morocco.
Tau, 30, enjoyed a treble-winning 2023/24 season with the Red Devils as they captured the club’s 44x Egyptian League title, their 14th Egyptian Super Cup and being crowned 12-times CAF Champions League winners – his 10th trophy for the club since joining them in 2021.
Rumours have been rife about Tau being left in the cold at the club and that he was seeking refuge elsewhere, but the pacey Bafana Bafana winger set the record straight on never ending rumours about quitting Al Ahly for Wydad Athletic Club to link up with Mokwena.
“No, I did not speak with him [Mokwena] about Wydad,” Tau told Andile Ncube on Sports Night Amplified.
“We are close but I did not speak to him about work.
“It’s close [relationship]. But he just got to Wydad and I’m at Ahly also.
“We’re close. We will meet somewhere and talk but not in terms of moving to Morocco,” Tau added.
The former Brighton & Hove Albion winger is currently in South Africa taking some time off from his busy schedule in North Africa.
