Tau Picks Up 3rd Trophy In Egypt

Percy Tau has picked up his third trophy in Egypt after his Al Ahly side beat Fagrie Lakay’s Pyramids 2-1 after extra-time in the Egyptian Cup final.

Tau started the game, while Lakay was initially on the bench. It was an eventless first half, but the game came to live in the second stanza.

The visitors scored the opener via Walid El Karti in the 71st minute, putting Al Ahly under pressure to respond.

The Egyptian Cup record champions responded just three minutes later, finding the equaliser via the in-form Kahraba.

Lakay entered the fray in the 82nd minute, but the two teams couldn’t be separate in 90 minutes.

Al Ahly went ahead in the 105th minute in extra-time when Hamdi Fathi scored the all-important second goal for his side. Tau was replaced by Mohamed Sherif at half-time in extra-time.

His side even survived a late push from Pyramids with 10 men, as Mohamed Abdelmonem was sent off in the 116th minute.

Overall, it was Al Ahly’s 38th Egyptian Cup triumph, extending their own record, but only their third since 2006/07.

Meanwhile, it was Tau’s third trophy with Al Ahly after the 2021 CAF Super Cup and the 2021/22 Egyptian Super Cup.
