Downs Ladies Start New Season With A Bang

Defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies started the defense of their Hollywoodbets Super League title with a 4-0 thrashing of Royal AM at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on the opening weekend of the 2024 season.

Boitumelo Rabale scored a brace while the other goals came from Andisiwe Mgcoyi and new signing Nthabiseng Majiya, who started from the bench.

The other big winners were University of Johannesburg (UJ) who First Touch Academy 4-1 in Limpopo. There was also a brace in that encounter from Refilwe Maseko, as UJ grabbed second place with three points.

Elsewhere rookies Lindelani Ladies grabbed third place, beating Thunderbirds Ladies 3-0 while their fellow newcomers Fort Hare University, also started their season in South Africa’s top tier women’s league with a 2-1 victory over Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) at home to sit in sixth spot with three points.

Fort Hare are just behind TS Galaxy Queens on the table after the Rockets saw off JVW Girls 2-0 in Soweto in their opener. Mamello Makhabane and Busisiwe Ndimeni were on target for the Mpumalanga based outfit.
