Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies have one hand on the Hollywoodbets Super League trophy after defeating neighbours University of Pretoria 3-0 in the Tshwane derby over the weekend.
The league’s current top scorer Boitumelo Rabale scored her 17th goal of the season while Karabo Dhlamini and Melinda Kgadiete also found the back of the net to help the defending champions amass 77 points in 28 matches. This means a point in their penultimate round will see Sundowns successfully secure a fifth successive league title.
Second-placed University of Western Cape can only reach 78 points if they win all their four remaining matches. Meanwhile, Tuks dropped to seventh place on the log with 42 points from 29 games.
UWC officially relegated rookies Lindelani Ladies with a 4-1 score-line in the Mother city. Amogelang Motau, Sibulele Holweni, Fikile Magama and Ntombifikile Ndlovu scored as the Blues maintained second position on the log with 66 points in 26 outings. The KwaZulu-Natal side are second from bottom with 16 points from 29 matches, three points from City Lads above them, though the Gqeberha side still have three matches to play.
University of Johannesburg (UJ) defeated Richmond United 2-0 to stay in third position with 62 points while TS Galaxy Queens continue breathing down their neck with a 6-0 thrashing of the relegated Thunderbirds Ladies. The Orange Army have one game to play this season while the Rockets, who have 58 points, could surpass them as they have three matches left to play.
