Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies opened a two-point gap at the top of the Hollywoodbets Super League log, following their 2-0 win over University of Johannesburg (UJ) in a top-of-the-table clash this weekend.
Chuene Morifi netted the opener while new signing Cimone Sauls also scored her first goal for Sundowns at the Lucas Moripe Stadium, as the defending champions made it three wins out of three games to stay at the summit with nine points. UJ dropped to fourth place with six points from the same number games.
Second spot this week was grabbed by this season’s early dark horse Copperbelt Ladies who won 2-1 over rookies Fort Hare University. The Limpopo side are tied on seven points with Richmond United in third place after they saw off TUT Matsatsantsa Ladies 2-1 in de Aar. Fort Hare dropped to number 11 on the standings with three points while TUT are 12th with the same number of points from as many matches.
Meanwhile JVW registered their first win of the season, a 1-0 victory against University of Western Cape (UWC) in a match that was delayed by two hours, owing to load shedding in Soweto on Friday. The Blue Diamonds are in 13th spot with three points, while the Blues are ninth with four points in their three outings.
