Downs Suffer First Defeat

University of Western Cape (UWC) handed Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies their first defeat of the Hollywoodbets Super League campaign, a 1-0 win in the mother city on Human Rights Day.

Ronnel Donnely came off the bench for her debut in blue to score the all-important goal, as UWC climbed up to fifth position on the log with seven points. The defending champions, however, remain at the top of the table with nine points due to a healthy goal difference.

TS Galaxy Queens and University of Pretoria moved into second and third positions, respectively, equalling Sundowns’ nine points following their wins over City Lads and Richmond United.

Phindile Rakgalakane and Busisiwe Ndimeni were on target for The Rockets, as they won 2-0 in Gqeberha, while Sbahle Ndlovu and Siyamthanda Qashani ensured Tuks bagged maximum points with a 2-1 score-line in the capital city.

Lads dropped to 11th position on the log with five points, while United also dropped to sixth position with seven points.

Meanwhile, there is only one side yet to lose after four rounds of league action and that is Copperbelt Ladies, who picked a point at home against newbies Lindelani Ladies. The result saw Copperbelt drop to fourth position on the table – just a point behind the top three.

Elsewhere First Touch Academy registered their first victory of the 2024 season, a 1-0 win over rookies University of Fort Hare and moved from the bottom for the first time to 13th place with three points.

Other results:

University of Johannesburg (UJ) 1-1 Royal AM

Durban Ladies 1-2 JVW

TUT Matsatsantsa Ladies 3-0 Thunderbirds Ladies
