Sundowns Secure Third HSL Title

Andisiwe Mgcoyi ensured that Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies secured their third successive Hollywoodbets Super League title as they defeated TS Galaxy Queens 1-0 at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.

The result sees Sundowns in pole position with 75 points on 28 matches equal in points with the University of Western Cape (UWC) in second place who have already wrapped up their campaign but with an inferior goal difference.

This means Sundowns cannot be caught with two matches in hand.

The feat means Jerry Tshabalala’s charges have completed a treble that includes a CAF Women’s Champions League trophy and a COSAFA title.

Sundowns have scored 93 goals while conceding 15 in 28 matches. Coach Tshabalala has been named among the nominees for the League’s Coach of the Season and Rabale among the nominees for Player of the Season.

Boitumelo Rabale could have made it 2-0 but was denied by Galaxy goalkeeper Dineo Magagula in the 55th minute with the second ball from Mgcoyi also going wide. Nicole Michael had a chance to equalise in the 64th minute however let the ball to go wide.

Nomvula Kgoale could have brought her side back into the match three minutes later but her shot landed in Andile Dlamini’s hands.

Busisiwe Ndimeni was also denied by the woodwork in the 82nd minute meaning the rookies finished the season in fourth spot with 61 points.
