JVW Football Club were the biggest winners in week 17 of the Hollywoodbets Super League, as they thrashed rookies Lindelani Ladies 4-0 at the Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium.
Gabriela Salgado opened the scoring followed by veteran striker Nompumelelo Nyandeni with Robin Moodaly getting the third goal, and Tanna Hollis wrapping things up to see the Blue Diamonds’ fight to close in on the top three continue.
The Gauteng-based outfit currently sits in fourth position with 27 points from 15 matches, while Lindelani are second from bottom with four points from the same number of matches.
JVW are right behind University of Western Cape (UWC), who maintained third spot after their 2-1 win over TS Galaxy Queens in Soweto. Sibulele Holweni and Tiffany Kortjie were on target for the Blues as they made it 35 points in 15 encounters, while the Rockets, whose consolation goal came from Promise Selana, slipped to fifth place with 27 points also from 15 games.
Elsewhere, league leaders Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies needed a late penalty to overcome a stubborn University of Fort Hare at the Lucas Moripe Stadium. Sundowns remain in pole position with 41 points from 16 matches, while the newcomers dropped to 12th with 17 points from 15 games.
University of Johannesburg (UJ) also narrowly defeated City Lads 1-0 to stay in second position on the standings, three points behind the defending champions after 16 matches, while the side from Gqeberha are third from bottom with 12 points from 15 games.
Meanwhile, the match between Thunderbirds Ladies and Copperbelt Ladies, which ended in a goalless draw, was delayed starting due to referees not arriving on time for kick-off.
