SuperSport United interim coach Andre Arendse has given an update on the future of defender Ime Okon, say he’s still registered player at the club despite widespread interest.
Okon is in his last six months of his contract with Matsatsantsa with a new deal yet to be signed according to reports as he assesses all his options.
The 21-year-old has played 21 games for SuperSport in all competitions this season and has recently been to trials with Dynamo Kyiv in Ukraine.
Arendse said he’s aware of what’s happening with the player however there hasn’t been any solid interest adding that even if one comes through, he will fight for Okon.
“Yeah, he’s still with the club,” answered Arendse when asked for an update by iDiski Times.
“He’s a registered player with the club. Contractually he belongs to SuperSport United. And I know they’ve been rumours in the past, I know that he’s been overseas, and he’s been going on trial here and there.
“And I know that there’s been interest but until that interest becomes something concrete, he’s a SuperSport United player and even if it does become concrete, boy I’m going to fight to keep him.
“But I certainly will not destroy his dreams, if anything comes through and it means that he moves on to bigger and better things, because he would deserve it.
“But for now, he’s definitely a SuperSport United player.”
