Barker Opens Up On Adams To Sundowns Talk

Stellenbosch FC head coach Steve Barker said he would not confirm nor deny whether Jayden Adams had played his last game for the club in their 2-0 win over Stade Malien.

The South Africa international midfielder looks poised to join Mamelodi Sundowns this week, with the two clubs reaching an agreement on his transfer fee.

With personal terms still to be ironed out, it’s likely Adams will be confirmed as a new signing for Sundowns this coming week.

And he managed to score in the 2-0 win alongside another of Stellenbosch highly sought-after talents Fawaaz Basadien, as they booked their place in the knockout stages of the CAF Confederation Cup.

“I’m not going to confirm nor deny your question [if it’s Adams’ last game for Stellenbosch], because I can’t confirm anything and I’m also not going to deny it,” he said when asked by iDiski Times.

When probed about the window, and how their recent success could be destabalised by clubs looking to lure their players away, Barker said they are confident they have planned well to be able to keep growing.

“I think without sounding… we’re a club that plan well, we’re a club that understands the business of football, we understand there are times where your best assets are not always easy to hold on to,” Barker said.

“Therefore it makes us extra committed and extra focused on ensuring we’re finding the talent there is to bring in, to continue to make the club competitive.

“If you look at the January window, the last three windows, I think we’ve done the best, we’ve been good. I don’t see why this window will be any different.”
