Kaizer Chiefs have announced the signing of left-back Bongani Sam from Orlando Pirates.

Sam, 26, was part of their pre-season in Turkey but returned early due to injury, alongside fellow left-back Edmilson Dove.

He was signed as a direct replacement for Sifiso Hlanti but the club could now still be forced into the market due to their injuries.

He’s penned a three-year deal with an option to extend with the Soweto giants but was not expected to be part of their matchday squad against Young Africans on Sunday where they were trounced 4-0 in Bloemfontein.

Sam spent last season on loan at Moroka Swallows where he impressed in his 15 appearances before being recalled by Pirates due to the financial woes at the now-defunct Dube Birds.
