Chippa United have secured the services of Mali U20 international midfielder Daba Diakité after his exit from FC Sheriff Tiraspol.
The defensive midfielder joins as a free agent after leaving the Moldovan giants, where he spent six months upon initially joining from Djoliba.
He played alongside Orlando Pirates midfielder Abdoulaye Mariko in the impressive squad that won the league and reached the group stage of the CAF Champions League and earned U20 recognition for his form.
Having been courted by the likes of Esperance Sportive de Tunis, LOSC Lille, Simba SC and Pyramids before his move to Europe, it proves a major coup for the South African club.
iDiski Times has been informed Chippa have secured the player on a two-year ahead of the 2026/27 season as they look to rebuild the squad under new head coach Brandon Truter.
He will be aiming to fare better than Mariko, who spent six months on loan at the club, from Pirates, before returning to his parent club in January.
Sammy Seabi, Goodman Mosele and Ayabulela Konqobe were mainstays in the Chilli Boys midfield last season, but it appears the latter two will no longer be at the club, with Mosele returning to Pirates after his loan.
