Former Bidvest Wits and Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Haashim Domingo is set to return to the DStv Premiership and sign with Cape Town City.
Domingo spent the past season in Morocco with Raja Club Athletic, but never quite settled in North Africa. He has since opted to part ways with the club after featuring in just 10 Botola Pro League games for Josef Zinnbauer’s team, last playing in April.
iDiski Times has been told that Domingo has now returned to Cape Town, and is set to sign for Eric Tinkler’s team for the 2024/25 campaign.
It will be his first return to a club in his hometown since leaving the now-defunct Ajax Cape Town over a decade ago.
The 28-year-old left Ajax in 2014 and spent four years in Europe, most notably at Vitoria Guimaraes, before joining Wits in 2018. When Bidvest sold the club, Domingo moved across to Sundowns, where he would go on to win three consecutive league titles before his departure last year.
This is not the first time Domingo has been linked with City, due to his previous relationship with the Comitis family, who were still involved at Ajax during the period that Domingo came through the club’s academy.
Domingo is likely to be one of several new faces at City next campaign. The club have already unveiled Namibian international Prins Tjiueza, while wing-back Ebrahim Seedat has been training with his former club and is likely to rejoin.
City finished fifth in the DStv Premiership, after a disappointing run in 2024, though ended strongly with two consecutive victories, including becoming the first team to beat champions Sundowns in the league.
Meanwhile, Zinnbauer’s Raja are still unbeaten in the Botola Pro league and chase Nasreddine Nabi’s ASFAR by one point with three league matches to go.
