New Maghreb Association Sportive de Fes (MAS Fes) signing Devin Titus says it’s been emotional for him to leave his former side Stellenbosch FC because of the memories he created in the Winelands.

Titus, 25, completed a permanent transfer to the Botola Pro league champions over the weekend, ending his stay at the club that started off in the development ranks. The winger has made 176 appearances for the Maroons, scoring 36 goals, with the last one coming in the Betway Premiership away at Polokwane City last week.

Among some of his achievements at the club is a Carling Cup medal and a semi-final appearance in the CAF Confederation Cup. He heads out to Morocco as the second most-capped Stellies player and second all-time top goal scorer.

Despite moving to Morocco, Titus believes he is leaving Stellies in a good place while also expressing his excitement about playing in the CAF Champions league.

“It’s an emotional feeling for me to leave Stellenbosch,” said Titus in his farewell interview with Stellies.

“Stellenbosch is a team that gave me the opportunity to become a professional footballer and I will always be grateful for that, but I’m excited to join MAS Fes. They are the Moroccan champions and one of the biggest clubs in Africa.

“So I’m excited to experience a new challenge and test myself at this level. There will never be a right or perfect time to leave Stellenbosch but it has always been important for me that if I left, I would do it after leaving the club in a better position.

“We’ve achieved incredible things together and last season I couldn’t just leave because we were fighting against relegation at one point, so it was important for me to stay and help the team and I believe I have done that.

“Now it will be my first time playing outside of the Betway Premiership so it’s a chance for me to feel what it’s like to play in a different country, to play in the Champions League and to compete at the highest level in African football and hopefully I am able to carry the flag abroad.”
