Esperance Sportive de Tunis have failed in their pursuit for Orlando Pirates striker Evidence Makgopa.
The 25-year-old striker has long been on the radar of the Tunisian giants, who made an official approach to Pirates as they look to land a replacement for Brazilian Rodrigo Rodrigues – who has returned to his homeland with Cortiba.

Esperance have been casting an eye on talent from the Premier Soccer League in recent times, having made attempts to sign Oswin Appollis in the past before their transfer of Elias Mokwana from Sekhukhune United.
The Bafana Bafana winger won a domestic treble, featuring in 38 games, with seven goals and four assists – including at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, but has now since joined Saudi Pro League side Al Hazem on loan.
Taraji, however, were rejected by Pirates and the player, who stated he’s not interested in moving to North Africa – having recently signed a new long-term deal with the Buccaneers.
It’s no secret that Makgopa has a release clause of close to R20-million that could be activated should a foreign club be keen on lure him from the club.
Makgopa has won four MTN8 titles at the club and two Nedbank Cup trophies – while scoring 16 goals with seven assists in 78 games since joining the Soweto giants from Baroka back in 2022.
