Stellenbosch FC right-back Deano Van Rooyen has brushed off rumours linking him with a move to Kaizer Chiefs or Orlando Pirates, saying he’s focussing on Stellies for now.
Van Rooyen, 27, is one of the most consistent performers for his club and has become one of the major pillars in Steve Barker’s side, who are currently 18 games unbeaten.
He has featured in 17 games in the DStv Premiership this, and helped the Winelands-based side to lift their first ever silverware when they won the Carling Knockout Cup.
His fine performances have many fans of the two Soweto giants waxing lyrical over the right-back and there have been rumours that a move up north could be in the pipeline – Van Rooyen, though, insisted he’s fully focussed on his current club.
“At the moment I’m happy where I am,” he told iDiski Times in an exclusive interview.
“But whatever comes maybe, I don’t know after the season, we will see. But for now, I’m very happy here.”
When asked whether he could follow his cousin Ashley Du Preez, who along with Zitha Kwinika and Sibongeseni Mthethwa moved from Stellies to Naturena in the last two season, Van Rooyen again expressed his commitment to Stellies.
“I don’t know anything about that. Like I said, for now, I’m happy here in Stellenbosch,” he added.
