Former Mamelodi Sundowns assistant coach Romain Folz has secured a move to Tunisian club US Monastir.

Folz, 36, has landed another job on the continent after penning a one-year deal with the Ligue 1 side.

Folz has a strong history of coaching on the continent, with SA football fans likely to remember him from his stints at Marumo Gallants and AmaZulu, while he also assisted Manqoba Mngqithi at Sundowns.

Most recently, Folz was working as head coach of Tanzanian giants Young African, and worked as Sporting Director at Algerian side Olympique Akbou before.

At Monastir he replaces Tarek Jarraya, who guided the side to fifth place last season.

Folz previously also worked at Guinean giants Horoya AC before his stint as Manqoba Mngqithi’s assistant at Sundowns. He also worked alongside Arsene Wenger for FIFA’s Global Football Development program.

His work in Africa started as assistant manager of Uganda in 2019. A year later he worked as assistant of Pyramids in Egypt before joining Bechem United in Ghana in his first head coach role.

In 2021 he joined Ghanaian side Ashanti Gold before a stint at Township Rollers in Botswana eventually brought him to South Africa with Marumo Gallants, where he became the youngest coach in the Premier Soccer League.

After Gallants, a stint at AmaZulu followed before he moved to Horoya and a surprise return to South Africa under Mngqithi.
