Former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Edson Castillo has agreed personal terms with Libyan Premier League side Asswehly Sports Club.
Castillo, 31, parted ways with Chiefs via mutual agreement after being informed he’s not part of the technical team’s plans for the 2025/26 season, despite having signing a new one-year contract with an option to extend back in February.
He left Chiefs as a firm fan favourite despite injuries disrupting his final season and left with five goals and two assists in 45 games over the two seasons at the club.
It hasn’t taken long for the Venezuela international to land a new club with Asswehly tabling a lucrative contract as they continue to build their squad to challenge in the Libyan top-flight.
iDiski Times has been informed Castillo has put pen to paper on a one-year deal which includes an option to extend with the ambitious side who finished first in the top-flight Group C stream and top of the Western Group playoffs.
The club invested millions of dollars in new recruits last season with hefty salary packages, luring the likes of Moussa Benzaid (JS Kabylie), Mahmoud Alaa (Zamalek), Mahmoud Wadi (Pyramids), Hamza El Janati (MAS Fez), Fily Traoré (TP Mazembe) and former Wydad star Aymane El Hassouni to the club.
