Former Sekhukhune United, Cape Town City and Orlando Pirates coach Eric Tinkler looks set to join Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko.
Tinkler, 55, was last in charge of Babina Noko but was dismissed in April following a drop in performances in the second half of the season.
Sekhukhune were Tinkler’s sixth club in South Africa after he started at Pirates, before moving to Cape Town City, SuperSport United, Chippa United, Maritzburg United and a second stint at City.
He won the Telkom Knockout with the Citizens in 2016/17 and the MTN8 with SuperSport the following season. Many remember Tinkler’s early achievements at the Buccaneers who he guided to the CAF Confederation Cup final in 2015, where they lost 2-1 on aggregate to Étoile du Sahel.
Tinkler is now branching out into Africa for the first time in his coaching career, after being lured to Kotoko by former Ajax Cape Town coach Stanley Menzo, who works as Sporting Director at the club.
The Porcupine Warriors are the record champions in Ghana with 25 titles but last won the Premier League in 2021/22, finishing only in 10th last campaign.
Kotoko have rich history, winning the CAF Champions League – then known as African Cup of Champions – in 1970 and 1983.
