Gavin Hunt has given an update on Gift Motupa, saying SuperSport United won’t be signing the former Baroka FC, Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns striker this season.
Motupa has been clubless since cutting ties with Sundowns in January after he struggled to get game-time with the defending DStv Premiership champions.
The 29-year-old has been training with Matsatsantsa over the last few weeks and Hunt revealed that it’s not possible to sign Motupa and now the club is just helping him stay fit.
However, he may consider bringing in the forward in three months after the 2023/24 campaign is finished.
“Gift we can’t, we can’t sign him this season,” said Hunt after their 1-1 draw with Future in the CAF Confederations Cup.
“We won’t be able to take him. I have spoken to him. He is just training with us and trying to get fit.
“You know he never had much football action, so he’s just trying to get fit with us and we’ll see by May/June, which is only two, three months away.”
