Hunt Responds To Johannes-Pirates Rumours

Super Sport United head coach Gavin Hunt has responded to rumours that have suggested that defender Kegan Johannes will leave the club for Orlando Pirates next season.

Johannes, 23, joined Matsatsantsa from Cape Town Spurs in 2021 and has become an integral part of Hunt’s side, especially this season where he has played 21 matches across all competitions including the CAF Confed Cup.

However, the defender was linked with a move to Pirates in the offseason by local media, and Hunt was asked to clarify the reports after SuperSport were held to a goalless draw by 10-men relegation-threatened Spurs in Polokwane on Friday evening.

“It’s people making up stories. I know nothing about it,” he replied in short.

Meanwhile the former Kaizer Chiefs coach admits his side missed an opportunity to grab full points, having created numerous chances to score.

The result meant they remained in fifth position on the DStv Premiership log with 40 points, while a win could have moved them to fourth spot to give themselves a better chance to fight for a Confed cup spot with two matches left to play.

“A big missed opportunity,” he added.

“I think we had enough chances, more than enough chances but it’s been a problem for us in the second round.

“We should be easy in the top three easy, easy but we play games like these. Even the games that we’ve lost in the second round we’ve had more chances than the opposition and it is what it is.

“We haven’t been scoring”.
