Komphela Shortlisted For Simba Job

Simba SC have enquired about Steve Komphela’s availability to potentially become their new head coach for the 2024/25 season.

Komphela left his role as First Team Coach at Mamelodi Sundowns at the start of last season for a new project at Moroka Swallows.

But after five wins and three draws and three defeats in the opening 12 games, the wheels began to fall off at the club, with alleged payment issues, which saw the squad down tools with walkover defeats handed out to Mamelodi Sundowns and Golden Arrows.

Several players and Komphela eventually departed at the halfway mark of the season before he returned for another stint at Golden Arrows, who had suffered 11 consecutive defeats prior to his arrival.

Three, wins, six draws and two defeats were achieved in the 11 games until the end of the season and Simba have now made contact over his services.

Alongside ASEC Mimosas head coach Julien Chevalier, the Simba board are deliberating on who should succeed Abdelhak Benchikha, who failed to finish inside the top two and qualify for the CAF Champions League next season.

It remains to be seen whether they formally approach Komphela with an offer, as they look to secure a new leader to start the rebuilding project at Wekundu wa Msimbazi.
